Travis Price Park, along the Springfield Greenway wetland boardwalk, and at rural crossings north of the city where anglers cast for smallmouth bass and bluegill.
For a proper morning, park at J. Travis Price Park, walk the greenway east until you hit the wetland boardwalk, and watch for herons, kingfishers, and the occasional beaver sign. The water is shallow and rocky — not swimmable — but ideal for wading in summer if you wear water shoes. Fishing requires a Tennessee state license ($11 online for residents 13+, $20 for non-residents daily). Pack out everything; there are no trash cans on rural access points.
