When to visit Springfield
Springfield has four real seasons, and each one changes the trip completely. Here is what to expect month by month, and which weeks to book or skip.

Spring: the sweet spot
Late March through early June is the best time to visit. Daytime highs run 65 to 82 degrees, dogwoods and redbuds bloom in April, and the humidity has not yet arrived. Hotel rates are moderate, around $110 to $140 at the chains. The main risk is spring storms, which can be severe; Robertson County sits in a tornado corridor and April is the peak month. Book flexible rates and watch the forecast.
Summer: hot, humid, and busy weekends
June through August delivers 88 to 95 degree afternoons with humidity that makes it feel over 100. Locals go to Cedar Hill Park's pool ($4 admission) or drive to Kentucky lakes. Weekend hotel rates jump at the interstate hotels to $150 to $180 because of Nashville overflow. Outdoor sightseeing is best before 10am or after 6pm. Bug spray is essential in the river bottoms and any wooded park.
Fall and winter
October is arguably the best single month: highs in the 70s, tobacco barns curing with smoke you can smell for miles, and hotel rates back around $115. Foliage peaks the third and fourth weeks. November through February is quiet, cold (30s and 40s), and cheap; you’ll get rooms for $85 and empty restaurants. December has a small courthouse-square Christmas lighting event worth catching if you’re already in town. Snow is rare but ice storms happen once or twice a winter.
