Day 1 morning: the square and the courthouse
Start with coffee and a scratch biscuit at Springfield Coffee Company on 5th Avenue West, which opens at 6:30am and pours a decent flat white for around $5. Walk two blocks to the 1879 Robertson County Courthouse; the square is compact and you can loop the antique shops on Main Street in under an hour. Pop into Springfield Antique Mall for old Coca-Cola tins and cast iron, then stroll to the Robertson County Archives on 5th Avenue East, which is free and staffed by very patient volunteers who love a genealogy question.
Day 1 afternoon: dark-fired tobacco country
Springfield sits in the dark-fired tobacco belt, and the fastest way to understand the town is to drive out to Beechwood Farm or up Highway 431 to see the curing barns still standing behind farmhouses. Loop back for lunch at Java Jacks on North Main for a $9 chicken salad plate. In the afternoon, drive fifteen minutes east to Port Royal State Historic Park where the Red River footbridge and old trace road are free to walk. Aim to be back on the square by 5pm.
Day 2: distilleries, catfish, and a slow sunset
Book the 10am tour at Old Glory Distilling Co. off Highway 41 in Clarksville, twenty-five minutes west, for $15 including three pours.
