The Bell Witch Cave sits on the original John Bell farm in Adams, where between 1817 and 1821 the family reported the disturbances that became the Bell Witch legend — a story Andrew Jackson himself investigated. Today the cave and a replica log cabin are privately operated as a guided attraction. Tours run about 45 minutes and cover the cave's limestone passages, the folklore, and the documented history, led by guides who take both seriously.
Book ahead in October — Halloween slots fill weeks in advance and are the only night tours offered. Off-season (November-April), call before driving out; tours run only Saturday-Sunday and cancel in bad weather. Wear sturdy shoes and expect a steep, slippery descent into the cave. The cabin tour alone ($10) is worth it if you have young kids who shouldn’t do the cave. Cash and card both accepted; no reservation fee.
