Skip the interstate exits. The older Days Inn and Quality Inn on Memorial Boulevard regularly go for $75 to $85 a night booked direct, and they are two miles from the square. If you have a tent, Cedar Hill Park north of town has primitive camping for around $15. For a splurge night, the Willow Chase B&B south of town runs about $130 and includes a real breakfast. Book Sunday through Wednesday for the lowest rates; Friday and Saturday can jump 30 percent.
Eat under $10 a meal
Breakfast: Springfield Coffee Company biscuit sandwich for $6. Lunch: Java Jacks half-sandwich and soup combo for $9, or the Mexican lunch buffet at El Mariachi for $9.50.
