The town of 18,000 sits on US-431 north of Nashville, and the chain hotels along South Main and Memorial Boulevard were built before EVs mattered here. If you drive a Model Y or a Mach-E into Springfield tonight, you have three realistic options: the ChargePoint units at the Robertson County Courthouse square, the Tesla Supercharger 22 miles south in Goodlettsville off Long Hollow Pike, or a Level 1 trickle from your hotel room's exterior outlet if the manager says yes.
That means the honest EV-hotel ranking for Springfield stretches south along I-65 toward Goodlettsville and Hendersonville, and west toward Clarksville on TN-49. The hotels that genuinely have chargers cluster in those two corridors. I’ve called every property on this list within the last six weeks to confirm the plugs are live, not decorative, and noted which ones charge a fee versus include it in the room rate.
Best overall: Hilton Garden Inn Goodlettsville
Two ClipperCreek CS-40 Level 2 chargers in the west lot, free to overnight guests, no reservation system — first come, first served. Rooms run $139-$179 midweek and the location off Exit 97 puts you 20 minutes from downtown Springfield via US-431. The chargers deliver about 25 miles of range per hour, so a full overnight brings a depleted battery back to 100%. Book a west-facing room and you can watch your car from the window, which sounds paranoid until someone unplugs you at 2am.
The catch: the hotel hosts a lot of weekend youth sports teams from the Moss-Wright Park complex, and both chargers get camped by non-EV pickup trucks on tournament Saturdays. If you’re rolling in Friday night in April or October, call ahead and ask the front desk to cone off a spot. They will if you’re polite. Breakfast is standard Hilton Garden Inn — made-to-order eggs, decent coffee, $15 if not included in your rate.
Best for Tesla drivers: Hampton Inn Hendersonville
Not because the Hampton has Tesla-specific hardware — it doesn’t — but because it sits 400 yards from the 12-stall V3 Supercharger at 225 Indian Lake Boulevard. Park at the hotel ($129-$159), walk over with your dinner, top up in 20 minutes while you eat at Center Point Barbecue across the parking lot. This is the most efficient EV workflow within an hour of Springfield, and I use it every time I drive a Tesla up from Nashville.
The hotel itself is a standard Hampton — clean, forgettable, free breakfast that includes waffles and the usual Hilton yogurt situation. Ask for a room on the Indian Lake side and you’ll be facing the Supercharger, which matters if you want to move your car after a session. The rate includes parking. There's no on-site Level 2, so if you drive a non-Tesla you’ll want the CCS stalls at the same Supercharger or the Electrify America bank 15 minutes north in Gallatin.
Best for a long stay: Home2 Suites Clarksville
Four Level 2 ChargePoint units, all working as of my January visit, and the extended-stay format means you can plug in Monday and not think about it until Friday. Rates run $149-$189 for a studio suite with a kitchenette — useful because Clarksville has decent grocery within a mile (Kroger on Wilma Rudolph) and you’re not eating hotel breakfast for five straight days. It's a 35-minute drive to Springfield on TN-76, which is more than most people want, but for consultants working at the Electrolux plant or contractors at Fort Campbell, this is the play.
Fee structure: ChargePoint bills you directly at $0.20/kWh, which is roughly half what you’d pay at a public DC fast charger and comparable to home rates in Tennessee. The lot is well-lit and the chargers sit under a canopy, which sounds trivial until you’re unplugging in a February ice storm. Two of the four stalls are pull-through, which matters if you tow anything.
Middle of the pack: Holiday Inn Express Portland
One Level 2 unit, installed 2023, and honestly the only hotel with charging inside Robertson County if you count Portland (which sits on the Robertson-Sumner line off I-65 Exit 117). Rate is reasonable at $119-$139 and the location works if you’re heading to the Robertson County Fairgrounds or doing business in Adams or Cross Plains. The charger is free but there's only one, so if a Chevy Bolt owner beat you to it, you’re stuck waiting or driving to Goodlettsville.
Portland itself is a small town with limited dinner options — Los Tres Reyes for Mexican, El Molcajete's newer sibling, and a Cracker Barrel at the exit. Not a destination, but a functional overnight if you’re doing the strawberry festival in May or the fair in August. The hotel is a standard HIX build from about 2018, breakfast is the cinnamon-roll-and-pancake-machine format, and the beds are fine. Book directly through IHG for the loyalty points if you’re a One Rewards member.
Skip these, despite what the map shows
Two Springfield-adjacent hotels advertise EV charging on Google Maps and third-party booking sites, but the plugs are dead or missing. The Quality Inn on Memorial Boulevard had a Blink unit that was decommissioned in 2022 — the pedestal is still there, which is why it shows up in search results. The Days Inn in White House has no charger, never did; the listing is scraped from a corporate template. Both hotels are otherwise fine for non-EV overnights, but don’t book them expecting to charge.
Similarly, the Best Western in Ashland City lists a charger that turns out to be a 120V outlet on the exterior wall labeled for EVs. That's not charging in any useful sense — you’ll get about 4 miles per hour, meaning a 12-hour overnight adds 48 miles of range. Fine for a plug-in hybrid, useless for a Rivian. Call before you commit; the front desk staff have been honest with me every time I’ve asked what's actually installed.
The Nashville alternative and when to use it
If your itinerary allows, staying in the Nashville metro and day-tripping to Springfield beats staying in Springfield and hunting for chargers. The Hutton Hotel in Midtown has valet EV charging (Tesla and J1772), the JW Marriott downtown has six DC fast chargers in its garage, and the Grand Hyatt at Nashville Yards runs Level 2 units on multiple garage floors. Rates run $250-$450, which is 2-3x Springfield hotels, but you’re solving charging, dining, and access to BNA airport in one booking.
The drive from downtown Nashville to Springfield is 30-35 minutes each way via I-65 and US-431, which is not nothing but is also less painful than driving to Goodlettsville twice a day from a Springfield hotel that can’t charge you.
